Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Francesco Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin and Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan when speaking to gathered reporters at a press conference earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“With Godin the club gives me serenity, you know that we want the player as well as evaluating the idea of bringing Nainggolan back. Then we are also evaluating the possibility of signing some other young players.”

Di Francesco also touched on what the 34-year-old Uruguayan, who signed for the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer, can bring to the Rossoblu’s squad.

“Godin is a leader, he is a defender who defend deep. He is strong, he has positive characteristics that can make his teammates grow. We are looking for a player with these characteristics, we also have Klavan who has international experience.”

Godin, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system last season, seeming shaky and uncertain playing from the back.

The 34-year-old was often benched in place of 21-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni, disappointing for the Milanese club considering Godin is one of the best paid players in the squad.

By freeing up their wage commitment to Godin, Inter can then close out the deal for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, who will earn over €6.5 million with the Milanese club, signing a two-year contract with an option for a third.
