Gaetano Castrovilli has revealed that he will try his best to not be influenced by the media speculation regarding his future this season.

The highly rated Fiorentina central midfielder drew strong links to Inter, Juventus and Roma in recent months and the player has admitted he will focus on working and improving himself as a player.

“I am a very calm guy and above all I try to focus only on the present,” he explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition.

“Last year was very important, I made my debut in Serie A, scored my first goals with this shirt, I was called up and I made my debut for Italy.

“From a sporting point of view, it was an extraordinary season but I know I can do even better so I’ll just think about working, letting myself be influenced as little as possible by external pressures.”

The Italian national team player then shared who he believes are the favourites to win the Serie A title this season, which gets underway later on today.

“This year it’s all strange, it could be a balanced season with some surprises but the favourites, at least on paper, remain the same, Juventus and Inter.”

In conclusion, Castrovilli was asked which player he would like to see come to Serie A so he could come up against them: “No doubt, Lionel Messi. It would be wonderful to be able to face him.”

23-year-old Castrovilli is regarded as one of the most exciting Italian prospects out there at the moment. Last season he made 35 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored three goals and tallied two assists.
