Italian Journalist Paolo Condò: “Romelu Lukaku Is Key For Inter Who Have To Win This Year”

Inter must look to beat Juventus and their rivals for the Scudetto this season, according to a report from Italian journalist Paolo Condò in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Repubblica.

The report details how the coach Antonio Conte’s position was confirmed at the club after meeting with the Nerazzurri’s management at the end of August.

Since then, the transfer market policy has seemingly changed, with the club looking to sign more experienced veterans to please the former Chelsea and Italy boss.

Signings like Aleksandar Kolarov and Arturo Vidal show that Inter are looking to immediately challenge Juventus, the report continues, putting pressure on newly appointed Andrea Pirlo, who has no previous coaching experience.

The key man for Conte remains Romelu Lukaku, with new signings like Achraf Hakimi also set to make an important impact for the Milanese club.

Pirlo will have to impress as Juventus coach, and considering that Inter finished only point behind the Bianconeri last season, will not have a large margin of error.

Condò highlighted how the gap between the two teams has mostly closed now.

“In the race for the top there are two teams, with a substantial difference. Inter like Juve must win, while Atalanta’s mission is to try. Considering that the last two weeks of the market can change many things, the impression is that last year Inter were very close to their rival.

“Antonio Conte’s work has produced something that is hard to understand from outside. The coach has suggested that winning is not considered an obligation, yet he is pushing for a purchase campaign based on players like Kolarov, Vidal, Sanchez, with whom, due to certain factors, you have to win with immediately.

“Having said that, Hakimi is a clear top talent, so is Eriksen. The key man remains Lukaku. And it must be recognized that no name has been more prominent than Conte’s.”
