Former Lazio attacker Paolo Di Canio has shared his views on the arrival of Arturo Vidal at Inter from Barcelona which was finally completed on Monday.

Inter strongly courted Vidal ever since Antonio Conte became the manager of the club in the Summer of 2019 and have reportedly managed to bring him in for nothing at all on a two year contract with an option to a third year worth a reported €6 million a year.

“Once he takes the ball from his opponents during the 90 minutes, in a clean way, he gets in and scored many goals. He does not have the energy to give continuity for the full 90 minutes and he played at Barça as a link up player,” Di Canio explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, yesterday afternoon.

“He knows how to play, he’s functional, he’s an experienced player. He certainly did not lead a healthy life as an athlete.

“If Conte was afraid of players who do not behave impeccably on a professional level, Vidal is not irreproachable but the coach knows him well.”

Di Canio also spoke on Conte’s recent meeting with club management in which is was decided that he would continue to be the manager of the Nerazzurri club.

“If a trouser has a hole you can repair the hole but the stitches covering the hole remain. Then it becomes vintage and it’s fantastic but things have to go well.

“For now they are pleasing him, they have signed experienced players who know how to win. In any case, it was important.”

Di Canio has a 23 year playing career between 1985 and 2008 and is perhaps best remembered for his spells at Lazio and West Ham United. The now 52-year-old also played for the likes of Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan during his career.
