Former Inter director Ernesto Paolillo has shared his views on what Inter’s latest recruit Arturo Vidal brings to the team.

Inter finally completed the signing of Vidal on Tuesday morning after a long courtship, which lasted over a year and he has reportedly joined Inter on a two year contract with an option to a third year with the contract worth €6 million a year.

“He adds the experience that was missing last year. Vidal is a great player. I don’t know his physical condition, but I think he can already play against Fiorentina,” Paolillo, who served as a director at Inter between the mid-2000s to 2012, explained in an interview with Italian news outlet FirenzeViola.it.

Paolillo also commented on Inter’s 2020/21 Serie A season opener which comes this weekend at home to Fiorentina.

“I undoubtedly expect a very sustained performance from Inter and one with character because, having started the last season with clear victories, we need to test ourselves and show that we are starting off well and can be considered among the candidates for the Scudetto. We need to show that we are competitive.”

Paolillo then went on to speak about Borja Valero’s return to La Viola after his contract with Inter expired at the end of last month.

“He is an experienced player, he knows how to play the ball well, in the context of Inter he was penalised due to being slow and was unable to fully express his abilit as a player. He expressed himself well, but not at his best here, by changing team and ambitions he will certainly succeed.”

In conclusion Paolillo spoke on Cristiano Biraghi, who returned to Fiorentina at the start of this month after his season long loan spell with Inter expired.

“I know Biraghi very well, he was in the youth academy when I was managing director. He has always impressed me, I remember we took him on the pre-season tour to the USA and he scored a beautiful goal against Manchester City.

“He has the right character and mentality, he will do a lot of good for Fiorentina. For a thousand emotional reasons, I was sorry he left Inter.”
