Legendary former Inter midfielder Nicola Berti has reiterated his hatred for the Nerazzurri’s arch rivals Juventus and has shared his belief that they were behind the whole Luis Suarez saga.
Suarez recently came to Italy to undergo an Italian language test as part of his bid to obtain Italian citizenship so he could qualify as a non-EU player but allegations that he cheated on the test are rife.
“In my opinon Juventus are definitely behind the Suarez issue. It’s their style, classic Juve style. You all know I am an anti-Juventino since the day I was born. I’ve always hated them. I’m joking, well kind of” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet Mowmag.com.
“It is clear that there is something behind it, it is not by chance that Suarez comes to Perugia. In my day these things did not happen, there weren’t these citizenship problems.”
Berti proceeded to speak on Inter central midfielder Nicolo Barella, who he believes is the modern day version of himself.
“He has initials NB like Nicola Berti, and he is Nicolo Barella. He is great, I love him, I see myself in him, he is my heir. I am sure that he will give us great satisfaction for the next ten years.”
Berti joined Inter in the Summer of 1988 from fellow Serie A side Sampdoria and spent the next decade with the Nerazzurri club before departing for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
During his decade on the club’s books, Berti made a total of 312 appearances across all competitions. In his time on the park, Berti scored 41 goals and provided eight assists. He won five trophies with the club, including three UEFA Cups.
