Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has shared his surprise that Christian Eriksen struggles to get a game in Inter’s midfield, a midfield he believes is lacking.

“In my opinion, Inter were already close last year, they let go of the title. The bigger problem is that there are so many players that Conte doesn’t like,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was aired earlier on today.

“Above all there is Eriksen. It is madness for me to not let him play in the midfield. Real Madrid wanted him, as did Barcelona, he did fantastic things in England and does it with Denmark. I can’t think that in a very normal midfield like Inter’s he doesn’t have a place.”

He then recalled that Conte did not want Pirlo during his time at Juventus and also shared his thoughts on the media speculation which has seen Inter linked with a move for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

“Let’s not forget when Conte arrived at Juventus he didn’t want Pirlo, who reminded him of that with every Scudetto they won. Conte doesn’t like players of a certain quality.

“Kante is great one versus one but doesn’t have a lot of quality but Conte likes him, as opposed to Eriksen, just like with Pirlo. Conte likes players like Barella, Kante, Gagliardini, Vidal. It’s normal that to win cups and leagues you need champions.”

The former Italian national team forward then went on to speak about Arturo Vidal’s arrival at Inter which occured earlier on this week and he also shared a reservation he has about Inter’s midfield department.

“Now Vidal has arrived who has quality but also great quantity and he’ll do what Conte wants him to. To win the league you need champions and aside from Vidal I don’t see any in Inter’s midfield.”

Cassano, who represented seven other clubs in addition to Inter during his 18 year playing career, then went on to discuss the race for the Serie A title this season which is widely expected to be contested between Juventus and Inter.

“Juve have two teams and start ahead of all. Behind them I see Inter, who can take advantage of the slip-ups of the Bianconeri, if they make any.”
