Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio discussed the Nerazzurri’s season opener against Fiorentina, the squad choices and the transfer market objectives in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN before the game.

“We have a mission to do well, even more so this season after finishing the last one very recently and very well, both in Italy and in Europe. We only needed a small step to be victorious, from that point we want to start again.”

He commented on Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte’s decision not to start new arrival Achraf Hakimi against the Viola.

“Simple decisions. We have a lot of important players and everyone will also have the opportunity to play, given the 5 substitutions. The coach has taken everything into account.”

The Milanese club’s sporting director confirmed that Inter are not looking to sell Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar in this window.

“I don’t confirm any negotiations. There was a meeting with Tottenham, true, but we told them that Skriniar is not for sale. Godin has already been sold and we are not thinking of depriving ourselves of Skriniar as well.”

Finally, Ausilio spoke about Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, who is reported to be coach Antonio Conte’s top transfer pick.

“A player who is an important part of Chelsea, he always plays and is not for sale. On the contrary, we have eight midfielders in the squad, and we will start the season with them.”

The Nerazzurri’s season opener is against a hungry Fiorentina side, who won their first game of the season against Torino last weekend.

Coach Antonio Conte is starting his second season in charge of the club and is looking to improve on his second-place finish in the league last season, with transfers like Achraf Hakimi and Arturo Vidal helping to close the gap with the Turin based club.
