Former AC Milan and Barcelona sporting director Ariedo Braida has shared his belief that Inter’s decision to sign Arturo Vidal over Sandro Tonali is evidence of Inter’s desire to win themselves some silverware immediately.

Inter courted Tonali for a number of months and even agreed personal terms with the player before pulling out of the race and letting him go to city rivals AC Milan in favour of pursuing a move for the vastly more experienced Vidal, who they completed the signing of last Tuesday.

Vidal, who Inter had wanted for over a year, made his Inter debut this past weekend when he came off of the subtitutes bench and he was a protagonist in Inter coming from behind to secure a 4-3 win over Fiorentina in the opening game of their 2020/21 Serie A campaign.

“At the moment Inter’s goal is to win. The choice to sign Arturo Vidal and not Sandro Tonali proves it. The Chilean gives different guarantees,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Italia 1 show ‘Tiki Taka’ on Tuesday.

Braida then added: “Conte is thinking in his head ‘I have to win the Scudetto’.”
