Inter were initially miraculous but then became unlucky in yesterday’s Champions League group stage draw according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Inter had a 50-50 chance of going into group A alongside reigning champions Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid but avoided going into that group with FC Salzburg being drawn into it instead.

Inter were then drawn into group B alongside 13 time Champions League winners Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk, who they hammered on their road to last season’s Europa League final, but then ended up with perhaps the most difficult opponent from the fourth pot in Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Champions League group stage is due to commence on October 20 and Inter’s schedule is expected to be announced just shortly.

The final of the Champions League is scheduled to take place on May 29 at the 75,145 capacity Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
