Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar will remain with Inter after Tottenham failed to increase their offer, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 25-year-old, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, was considered expendable by the Milanese club, who were open to selling the player in order to acquire new transfer targets.

The player struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system last season and did not impress whilst playing in a back-three, clearly more comfortable in a four-man defense.

Tottenham were interested in signing Skriniar, the report continues, but have been put off by the high price requested by the Milanese club, who are not looking to give significant discounts on the player.

Only an offer of around €45-50 million would see Skriniar leave before the closure of the transfer window, and so he will remain a part of Conte’s project.
