The managing director of Sassuolo, Giovanni Carnevali, discussed the work of the Neroverdi in the transfer market in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

The executive was at Inter’s headquarters yesterday.

“Are we a club working on the market from now until Monday? I don’t think so. Hopefully it will end soon. We are trying to keep our best players and we believe that those are our best purchases.”

Carnevali confirmed that Sassuolo had declined both players and offers from clubs in this transfer window.

“We have said no to more than one player and more than one club. Players like Locatelli, Berardi and Boga have been courted for months. We have this goal to keep them. We will try to keep them in the fight, we must absolutely resist.”

Inter are interested in signing Sassuolo’s 22-year-old Italian midfielder Manuel Locatelli. Contracted to the club until 2023, the player impressed last season in his role as a defensive midfielder.

Locatelli made 34 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 2671 minutes. In that time, he provided four assists.

Inter offered Sassuolo a loan deal with a buy option attached for the 22-year-old, but the Neroverdi declined the offer. Previously the Nerazzurri had signed both Matteo Politano and Stefano Sensi from the Reggio Emilia based club in the same way.

Locatelli is a product of AC Milan’s youth academy and has been with Sassuolo since 2018.
