Sporting Lisbon are interested in re-signing Inter midfielder Joao Mario, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews earlier today.

The report details how the Portuguese club, who sold the 27-year-old to the Nerazzurri for €40 million plus bonuses four years ago, have approached the Milanese club regarding a possible deal for the player.

Sporting sold midfielder Wendel to Zenit St. Petersburg for €20 million and so now have funds available to pursue Mario, who has been frozen out of the Inter squad.

Real Betis in Spain, Galatasaray in Turkey and Marseille in France have all been in contact with Joao Mario’s entourage regarding a possible deal, the report continues, but nothing concrete has arrived so far.

Inter would even be willing to accept a loan deal, as long as there is an obligation to buy clause attached.

Mario is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022. He disappointed last season on loan with Lokomotiv Moscow.
