Tottenham have given up on signing Inter defender Milan Skriniar, according to a report from British media outlet the Athletic earlier today.
The report details how the North London club initially targeted the 25-year-old Slovakian defender, but failed to match the prices requested by the Nerazzurri, and so began to focus on other targets.
The new goal is Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, the report continues. The 27-year-old German defender is unhappy at his recent exclusions from the team sheet by coach Frank Lampard and is pushing for a loan move away.
Skriniar struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system last season, especially playing in a three-man defense. The Nerazzurri were hoping to sell the player in order to fund other transfer market goals, but now will have to settle with the work that has been done.
Skriniar started against Benevento on Wednesday and played the full 90 minutes. He was benched for the first game of the season.
