Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Francesco discussed the club’s work in the transfer market and hinted towards the talks with Inter for Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia yesterday.

“There have been some tough moments and also some players who will join us and strengthen us, with their personality and knowledge of the league.

“Big unwanted players, I would like to have them all and immediately but that was not the case. And I hope to have a few more players after the international break.”

Talks are currently ongoing between Inter and Cagliari regarding a deal for the 32-year-old Belgian midfielder, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022.

The player spent last season on loan in Sardinia with the Rossoblu and impressed, even being given the captain’s armband due to his leadership and strong performances on the pitch.

Nainggolan made 29 appearances across all competitions last season for Cagliari, for a total of 2279 minutes. In that time, he scored six goals and provided seven assists, being one of the stars of the squad.

The player has not been included in coach Antonio Conte’s project at the club and so they have been looking for a new home for him, with Caligari the only serious option.
