Former Sporting CP director of football Augustio Inacio is convinced that Joao Mario can get his career back on track having completed a return to the Portuguese powerhouses.

The Portuguese national team attacking midfielder has joined Sporting CP on a season long loan from Inter, where he is very much considered as being out of the club’s project.

“It is a good opportunity for the player to be able to realunch his career again and for him to be able to return to the national team, which I think is a great goal for him too,” Inacio explained in an interview with Portuguese news outlet Bola Branca.

“He is a good acquisition for Sporting and it will also be good for Joao Mario, because he is in an environment that he knows well.”

Joao Mario, who is contracted to Inter until 2022, joined Inter in a circa €40 million deal from Sporting CP back in the Summer of 2016 but has very rarely managed to perform to expectations when wearing the Inter shirt.

The 27-year-old, who has had loan spells at West Ham United and more recently Lokomotiv Moscow, during his time with Inter, has made 69 appearances across all competitions for the club. In his time on the park, Joao Mario has scored four goals and provided his teammates with 13 assists.
