Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Not The Case That Team Who Spends The Most Wins, Look At Atalanta”

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has spoken on the globalisation of football at yesterday’s ‘I nuovi orizzonti del calcio italiano’ event.

“Football is globalised after opening it up to foreigners, before it was all within the Italian football system. There was a liberalisation of the constraint.

“Many teams, in the 1990s had a clear prevalence of foreign players,” he explained to the gathered media, including TuttoMercatoWeb.

He then went on to speak about how business models of clubs have now changed and shared his appreciation for new Parma president Kyle Krause and what he has said since becoming the owner of the Ducali clubs in recent weeks.

“The business models have changed for how to compete in an ever increasing competitive environment. I am pleased to hear from the Parma president, Krause, that respecting the budget and modernisation of infrastructures are a priority for him.

“A player meanwhile wants to have dialogue with the clubs, he surrounds himself with agents and commercial agents, but also with physical trainers.”

He then dismissed the idea that a lot of money needs to be spent during transfer windows in order to be successful on the pitch and fighting for silverware.

“It is not the case that the team who spends the most wins. The strongest clubs have won but then there is the Atalanta model, where I was twenty years ago for three seasons. They are very careful in terms of costs but they are a club that is among the protagonists for the second or third consecutive year.”

Marotta is widely regarded as one of the best executives out there in Italian football and played a key role in helping Juventus get back to the top. He joined Inter in December 2018 and has helped Inter to get back challenging at the top of the league.
