Legendary Inter defender Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his thoughts and feelings on Inter’s draw away to Lazio this past weekend.

Inter took the lead via Lautaro Martinez in the first half and went into the half time interval leading but could not see the game out and had to settle for just a point in the end.

“Last year against Lazio, Inter suffered in both matches but they showed personality in this match up to a certain point,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, on Monday afternoon.

“I want to see Inter against opponents like this, where you must always show personality until the end of the match. I am not fooled by the matches against Fiorentina and Benevento.

“Inter allowed Lazio to comeback, who were in a lot of difficulty. With five substitutes you can’t allow these errors to be made in a game and allow comebacks like that. There is always a possibility to make the squad competitive.”

In conclusion he spoke on Inter’s defence, which has shipped six goals in the opening three games, and also shared his opinion on a position where Arturo Vidal should never play for Inter.

“The defence? Antonio Conte admitted that he is still working on this, whilst in midfield he can do as he wants. Although I would never let Arturo Vidal play in front of the defence, but this is my evaluation.”

Bergomi spent the entirety of his playing career with Inter between 1979 and 1999 and he sits second only to Javier Zanetti in the list of appearances made for the club.

During his time with the club, the 1982 World Cup winner made a grand total of 754 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 29 goals, tallied one assist and won seven trophies, including three UEFA Cups.
