Former Inter defender Diego Godin has reflected on his time at Inter and shared his belief that he managed to adapt and do well despite facing some difficulties in the beginning.

“At Inter I had to change my style of play to play in a different system from the one I was used to in my career. I changed my mindset in order to get the job done,” he told the gathered media at the pre-match press conference ahead of Uruguay’s upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Chile.

“This required more physical effort than I was used to but I managed to win this challenge, managing to adapt and do well. In the national team I can guarantee what I have always done, with the happiness and enthusiasm of being in the selection as if it were the first day, but also with the experience of three preliminary heats.”

He then spoke on Chilean national team pair Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez, the latter of whom was a teammate of his during his single season with Inter.

“Vidal was not my teammate at the Nerazzurri, but I know him as an opponent. He is competitive and has a lot of quality.

“As for Alexis, I have experienced him closely, he has an impressive enthusiasm. We will have to be careful because in every area of the pitch he makes a difference.”

In the recently closed transfer window, Godin left Inter for fellow Serie A side Cagliari just one year after joining on a free transfer. In his single season with Inter Godin made 36 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored two goals and tallied one assist.

Since joining Cagliari on a three year deal, the 34-year-old has made one appearance across all competitions, in which he scored one goal.
