Legendary Inter centre back Ivan Cordoba believes that Inter’s draw against Lazio was not a misstep, as many have suggested it was.

Inter took the lead on the half hour mark via Lautaro Martinez and dominated the match for large spells but were unable to come away from the capital with all three points as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic equalised for the hosts just before the hour mark.

“I would not speak of the match as a misstep. Lazio is Lazio, they have been fighting for years for the positions that count.

“A draw against an opponent like this is okay, the indications are positive,” he explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in Tuesday’s print edition.

Cordoba was then asked whether or not he believes Inter have gotten closer to arch rivals Juventus following the business they carried out in the recently closed transfer window.

“I would say yes. Inter were already strong but with the signings they have made, they have raised the level further.

“We know Vidal, he is a world class midfielder, he has won everywhere he has been and is already changing the face of the midfield.

“As for Hakimi, well, what to say about him. He’s fine for this type of play, he’s very young but already suitable for the best clubs in Europe.”

In conclusion Cordoba, who spent 12 years with Inter, discussed Christian Eriksen, who has continued to struggle at the Nerazzurri club, who he joined in a circa €20 million deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the most recent January transfer window.

“No one can dispute his qualities. I think the problems for him are tactical but above all related to his adaptation to Italian football.”
