Italian football journalist Fabrizio Biasin has revealed why he decided to include former Inter captain Mauro Icardi over someone such as Inter treble winning hero Samuel Eto’o in his newly launched book ‘The history of Inter in 50 Portraits’, which he wrote alongside fellow journalist Paolo Condo.

Despite being a controversial and divisive figure during his spell with Inter, which came to an end a few months ago, Icardi made the cut over Eto’o, who played an integral role in Inter winning their historic treble back in the 2009/10 season.

“I asked Paolo to include Icardi. He is a man of contrast for the Inter fans, but I asked him to include him because he scored some goals for Inter, and then because, despite not having won anything, he had a story to tell,” Biasin explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was broadcast a short time ago.

“I was sorry not to put Eto’o in, but it is also true that we could not include all the protagonists of the Triplete.”

He was then asked who he would like to make the 51st portrait if given the opportunity to add another to the book at the later date and he made a rather surprising admission.

“The 51st name? I would very much like to include Christian Eriksen in the future, who currently is some way off from starting but is the player with the most quality.

“In my opinion, signing Vidal was preparing for the inclusion of Eriksen, who I would play even in goal given his stats, especially in the Premier League.”

Since joining Inter, Eriksen has made 28 appearances, in which he has scored four goals and provided three assists. For the most part, he has left a lot to be desired with his performances and has very seldom performed to the level he is known to be capable of.
