Former Italian national team defender Federico Balzaretti has shared his belief that whilst Christian Eriksen is not best suited for the system used by Inter manager Antonio Conte, he still has the quality to be a stand out for the Nerazzurri club.

Eriksen joined Inter in a circa €20 million deal on a four and a half year contract from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the most recent January transfer window but has struggled to perform to the level he is known to be capable of on a consistent basis.

“We expect great things from Eriksen. He is the player who, in terms of his characteristics, is the least suited to Conte’s system, but it is also true that he has the quality and intelligence to stand out,” Balzaretti explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN, which was broadcast a short time ago.

Since Eriksen joined Inter, he has made 28 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored four goals and provided three assists for his teammates.

This season Eriksen has appeared in two of Inter’s three matches and started just once. In his limited time on the field, he has failed to make any goal contributions.
