Inter legend Evaristo Beccalossi discussed Nerazzurri midfielder Christian Eriksen’s recent media outburst in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I believe that you have to read it in a positive way. After all, he has expressed the will to play and be the protagonist, so I can see the desire to show that he is for Inter. He wants to give his contribution to the team and be a protagonist in all competitions

“Conte and the team have identified together the way to improve Inter and the solution was to have a deep squad, with many men of quality so they can rotate the squad effectively whilst playing every three days.”

He commented on how the abundance of midfielders in the squad should not be a negative for the Danish midfielder.

“Competition helps to grow and get the most out of each player. A great team like Inter needs twenty starters to succeed in all competitions and you always have to be ready.

“Be good at putting the coach and his choices in trouble, giving your best in training and in the moments in the game that you’re involved in.”

Beccalossi touched on what Eriksen needs to do to impress coach Antonio Conte and find himself on the starting sheet again.

“Leaving his mark on the pitch, whenever he has the opportunity. He must put his great quality at the service of the team, beyond which position he’s playing on the pitch or the minutes he will have.

“The facts are needed, those are indisputable. Antonio is a very careful coach. Look at Bastoni, last year he played slowly, with some appearances here and there. Today he is a very important player for the Inter, an added value.”

The Inter legend spoke about what has been the problem for the former Tottenham midfielder since his arrival in the January transfer window earlier this year.

“Sometimes he has a lot of character, maybe he is a shy guy who needs more time to adapt to a new country and a new environment.”

Finally, Beccalossi discussed how Eriksen received more minutes last season in European competition compared to Serie A.

“I don’t know, but as I said I wouldn’t make too much of it, it is only a question of competition, minutes or role. This year Inter will have many close games and there will be room for all. Eriksen wants to be a protagonist and there is no better starting point to show that he is an added value.”

The 28-year-old Eriksen, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, has only played 73 minutes so far this season, missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Lazio. He recently complained in the media about his lack of playing time.
