Brescia president Massimo Cellino discussed the sale of long time Inter target Sandro Tonali to AC Milan in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Il Messaggero.

“Inter acted in the wrong way. Beppe Marotta wanted him and Antonio Conte adores him. The clubs that overlooked were rejected precisely because there was the Nerazzurri.

“But the boy also wanted to know his future. Sandro has been a Milan fan since he was a child.”

He highlighted how the talks with the Rossoneri were easy and smooth, with a deal being reached fairly quickly.

“The operation with them made me doubly pleased. I also respected a club that gave value to money. Maldini has the DNA from Milan and has all the prerequisites to become a great executive.”

Finally, Cellino commented on his sadness at having to sell the 20-year-old Italian midfielder.

“I would have liked to keep him, but unfortunately the dream was shattered by the relegation and the uncertainty transmitted by the pandemic.”

Tonali, who is currently on a loan deal with the Rossoneri with a buy option attached, has appeared in all of the Milanese club’s games so far this season, slowly being eased into coach Stefano Pioli’s squad.

The young Italian was one of the few bright spots in the disappointing Brescia team last season. He made 36 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 3108 minutes. In that time, he scored one goal and provided seven assists.

Inter reached personal terms with Tonali in the spring of this year but failed to reach an agreement with Brescia and focused on other targets.
