Former Inter and Juventus coach Marcello Lippi discussed the partial reopening of Italian stadiums to fans and the COVID-19 pandemic in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio Uno Rai yesterday.

“I don’t think this is the problem with football. In stadiums where there are 80 thousand people, there can be as many as 20 thousand with social distancing.”

He also highlighted how the season could be decided by which teams suffer heavily from COVID-19 infections. The Nerazzurri currently have five players who have contracted the contagion and are in quarantine.

“League title decided by Coronavirus? If it continues like this there is a risk.”

Inter coach Antonio Conte will have to re-design his squad ahead of next week’s Milanese derby against AC Milan, with five players testing positive for COVID-19. These players are Radja Nainggolan, Ionut Radu, Roberto Gagliardini, Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar.

The Rossoneri will have Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic available for the clash, after the 39-year-old recovered from the virus. Matteo Gabbia has tested positive for the contagion, however, and so recently recovered Alessio Romagnoli will return to the line up.

AC Milan are currently tied at the top of the league table with Atalanta, after winning their first three games.
