Former Inter midfielder Benoit Cauet discussed the difficult position the Nerazzurri are in regarding their players who have tested positive for COVID-19 in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio 24 yesterday.

“It’s a delicate moment for Inter, after a great start of the season comes an important game like the derby and the Nerazzurri are not in a great position with all these positive cases.

He highlighted how the international break is a problem for all teams in this period, considering the risks of mixing players all together.

“It becomes complicated to prepare for a game like this normally with international breaks, in these conditions it is really difficult. Not only Inter, everyone is uncomfortable at the moment.”

Inter have currently lost six players to positive COVID-19 tests, with the most recent being 35-year-old Englishman Ashley Young, who was set to start against AC Milan next weekend in the derby.

Coach Antonio Conte will now have to re-design his squad in order to work around these issues, with Croatian forward Ivan Perisic now likely to start.

The other Inter players that have tested positive are Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Roberto Gagliardini, Ionut Radu and Radja Nainggolan.

The Milanese club are now taking great care to ensure that the players who did not travel with their national teams are safe from the virus, in order to avoid losing any more players.

Inter would need four more positive diagnoses in order to ask for a postponement for the game against the Rossoneri.
