Italy’s three biggest daily sports news outlets have been unanimous in their criticism of Inter central midfielder Nicolo Barella following his performance in Italy’s goalless UEFA Nations League draw against Poland last night.

Barella played 79 minutes of the match at the Stadion Energa Gdansk and the former Cagliari player, in the eyes of Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport, was not his usual self and could certainly have performed better than he ultimately did.

Gazzetta dello Sport have given him a rating of 5.5 for his performance and stated: “Compared to the Barella seen in Amsterdam, this is really a minor tone. He runs a lot and tired himself out by pressing, but doesn’t make himself dangerous with the usual forays forward.”

Corriere dello Sport also gave Barella the same rating and said the following on his performance: “He was less bright than usual, Moder disturbed him. He got nervous because his game was struggling to take off. He was only just better in the second half.”

Tuttosport meanwhile gave him a rating of 6/10: “He had a few attempts to try to not lose that pleasant vice of scoring.”

This season the 23-year-old, who is contracted to Inter until the end of the 2023/24 season, has appeared in all three of Inter’s match across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which comes to a total of 202 minutes, Barella has provided a single assist for his teammates.
