Juventus central defender Giorgio Chiellini has sang the praises of Inter centre back Stefan de Vrij ahead of Italy’s clash against The Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League later on tonight.

“de Vrij has grown enormously in recent years. He arrived at Lazio years ago and last year had a top season at Inter,” Chiellini explained in an interview with Dutch broadcaster Nos, ahead of the clash which will be contested at Atalanta’s Gewiss Stadium.

“With Antonio Conte he is in his perfect position now and is also the ideal age for a defender , between 28 and 32-years-old. I think it’s the best age for a defender. The Dutch national team has three fantastic defenders and it will be difficult to score.”

de Vrij is into his third season with Inter after joining the club in the Summer of 2018 on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Lazio at the end of the previous season.

Since joining the club, the Dutchman, who came through the ranks at Feyenoord, has made 84 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored six goals and provided just as many assists for his Nerazzurri teammates.

This season the 28-year-old has made two appearances across all competitions to date although he is yet to make any goal contributions this campaign.
