Borussia Monchengladbach manager Marco Rose has admitted that he feels his team have prepared well ahead of their Champions League group stage opener against Inter in the middle of next week.

The Bundesliga club, who are one time runners up in the competition, have been drawn into group B alongside 13 time Champions League winners Real Madrid, three time winners Inter and Ukrainian powerhouses Shakhtar Donetsk in what promises to be a good group.

“We have prepared well and are in good shape We are ready, but some players are still missing. It will be an intense period and we know that we also need positive results to move forward with a good feeling,” he explained in an interview with German news agency Dpa.

“The group with Inter and Real Madrid? If we want to do really well, we also need good results. This is how you can aim for the maximum.

“Sustainable development comes from a sense of accomplishment. There is always preparation behind a goal to achieve, and if you work well you are often rewarded.

“Should we succeed, we would have achieved a great result. We have already worked a lot and of course we also represent a certain type of football.”

Rose, who has been in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach since 2019, was then asked who he thinks the strongest team in the group is.

“I can’t really say. We expect Inter to play three at the back whilst Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk will play with four defenders.

“Inter play with flexible pressing, Real Madrid focus on individual control and quality while the Ukrainians are a team with excellent players, many Brazilians, who defend well and change the game. Every match becomes a challenge for us.”

Inter versus Borussia Monchengladbach is scheduled to take place at San Siro this coming Wednesday with kick off set for 9pm local time. The two sides will meet again on match day five of the Champions League group stages with that match to take place at Borussia Park on December 1.
