Inter youngster Lorenzo Pirola has stressed that he is aware he has achieved nothing yet and has to remain grounded despite all the good things to have happened to him as of late.

Pirola made his first team debut for Inter at the end of last season, secured a loan move to Serie B club Monza and also recently made his debut for the Italian under 21 national team, aged just 18.

“They were three moments as exciting as they were important in my growth path but I know very well that I haven’t done anything yet and that it is essential to always keep my feet on the ground,” he explained in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

Pirola proceeded to speak about how Inter manager Antonio Conte has treated him since he took charge of the club in the Summer of 2019.

“Conte made me feel part of the group despite being the youngest. I have always felt his trust in me and I was pleased when he reiterated his appreciation for me at the press conference.”

Next the highly rated player shared what his inspirations are: “Inter’s treble winning team, I was crazy about Samuel, but I grew up studying Sergio Ramos and then the training sessions with the advice of de Vrij and Skriniar were greatly enriching.”

In conclusion he discussed how his debut for the Italian under 21 national team came about and he also shared his goal of playing for the senior Italian national team one day.

“I was called up for an internship with the Under 20s. After the Under 21 guys returned home due to the positive COVID-19 cases, we were told that it would be up to us, the Under 20s, to take the field against Ireland.

“It was a somewhat surprising debut but one that I will remember all my life. Playing in the senior national team is every child’s dream. I’m in no hurry, I know there is still a long way to go but I hope with all my heart to get there.”
