AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli discussed the Rossoneri’s emphatic 2-1 win over rivals Inter in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“Today’s result doesn’t change anything. We are satisfied for beating a great team, we were good to suffer. A great win for our fantastic fans. But the road is still long and we must continue to work.”

He commented on the importance of Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored both goals for the Milanese club this evening in the derby.

“Ibrahimovic was tired and even asked me for a change, but this time I didn’t listen to him. He is a champion, his contribution is very important.

“Congratulations to him and the team, we beat a very strong opponent.”

The former Fiorentina coach spoke about how the team are growing and must continue their work to improve.

“It means that we are growing and that we must continue. We can improve from the technical point of view, but this team is growing well.”

Finally, Pioli spoke about whether the team’s potential ability to win the league title this season. The Rossoneri are currently clear at the top of the league table, with 12 points.

“There are stronger teams that have invested more, but we are ambitious. We often accepted the two centre defenders against the two Inter forwards.”

AC Milan’s next game is against Scottish side Celtic in the Europa League next week, before they face Roma the Monday after.

The Nerazzurri’s next game is against Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday, with their next league commitment coming against Genoa next Saturday.

Inter now sit sixth in the league table.
