Inter wing back Achraf Hakimi discussed his decision to join the Nerazzurri and legend Javier Zanetti in an interview with international media outlet BeIN Sports, as reported by French media outlet Le10Sport.com earlier today.
“It’s an honor to be part of a legendary club like Inter. Many greats have played here at San Siro. It’s a real privilege to wear this shirt.
“I want to prove that the club was right to trust me. I am very happy to discover a new league. I will learn a lot and improve, I am sure.”
He commented on how influential club legend and vice president Javier Zanetti is, and how he hopes to follow in the Argentinian’s footsteps.
“I spoke with Javier Zanetti when I signed the contract. We also met the following days in the sports center.
“He is a true legend, an icon of Inter. I really hope to follow in his footsteps. He is a great full-back, a legend and a true model for me.”
Finally, Hakimi touched on how his talks with coach Antonio Conte also convinced him to join the Milanese club.
“I also talked to the coach before I signed here. We had a good conversation. He told me that he really liked the way I played and this was an important part of my decision to sign here.
“It is very important to feel that the coach really wants you.”
The 21-year-old Hakimi, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2025, signed for the Milanese club from Real Madrid this past summer, in a deal worth around €40 million.
The player previously impressed in two seasons on loan with German side Borussia Dortmund, where he scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Hakimi has already made three appearances for the Nerazzurri this season under Conte, scoring one goal and providing two assists in his 206 minutes on the pitch.
