Inter legend Beppe Bergomi discussed the Nerazzurri’s painful 2-1 derby defeat to rivals AC Milan when speaking with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“I still think that to win you need a strong defense and eight goals in four games is a lot. The best defenses win. Inter have weakened in defense.

“They lost a player of great charisma like Godin, replacing him with Kolarov, who is not a natural there. Defense is slow and in games like today’s it becomes difficult.”

He highlighted how the Rossoneri are a strong squad, with a good level of depth.

“This Milan is a side that can fight for the title, they are a well-built team. I like them. The Rossoneri had players on the bench who were suitable to change the game, Inter did not.”

The Italian still thought that the Nerazzurri had a chance in the title race, but were not particularly favourites.

“Inter remain in the title race, but I don’t see them as much stronger than Napoli, Juve, Atalanta and AC Milan. I’m not so convinced that they have the most complete squad, I think Juve have something more.”

Inter started off the game strongly against Stefano Pioli’s side, but suffered two early goals at the hands of Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who tested negative for Covid-19 earlier this week after contracting from the contagion.

Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku still hit the net for the Nerazzurri but it was not enough to overturn the result, allowing the Rossoneri to take the full three points.

Inter will have to look ahead to their next game, against German side Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Nerazzurri’s next league game is against Genoa on Saturday.
