Former AC Milan captain Alessandro Costacurta discussed the Rossoneri’s 2-1 derby win over rivals Inter when speaking with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“Conte, in my opinion, talked about attack and missed chances up front to shift the attention a little bit from the defense, since the goals came from individual mistakes.

“In my opinion, Inter will be in trouble for the rest of this season for the way Conte wants to make them play on open play.

He highlighted how the Nerazzurri have slower defenders and so should be weary of playing with a higher line.

“They don’t have particularly fast defenders and with Bastoni the situation would not have improved too much.”

Finally, Costacurta discussed Inter’s chances in the Champions League. They face Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in their opening game of the campaign on Wednesday this week.

“In the Champions League I believe that Inter can do well. On Wednesday they face Gladbach, a solid team. It’s a difficult group, but it can be overcome.”

Inter had started the season well, with wins over Fiorentina and Benevento, but suffered a 1-1 draw against a tough Lazio side before the international break.

Going into yesterday’s derby, the Milanese side were missing six players due to positive cases of Covid-19.

Starting defenders Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni, midfielders Roberto Gagliardini and Radja Nainggolan, backup keeper Ionut Radu and full back Ashley Young all caught the contagion and missed the game.

The Nerazzurri’s next league game is against Genoa on Saturday.
