Inter owned midfielder Joao Mario celebrated his return to Sporting Lisbon in a post on his Instagram page yesterday.

The 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, was sent out on a dry loan to his former club earlier this month, after Inter failed to a definitive deal for the player.

Mario was not included in coach Antonio Conte’s project and did not particularly impress last season whilst on loan with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow.

The player made 22 appearances across all competitions for the Russian club, for a total of 1832 minutes. In that time, he scored one goal and provided six assists.

Mario is unlikely to play for Inter again and the club will look to sell him over the next two transfer windows. He made 69 appearances for the Milanese club since signing in 2016.

He commented on his return to Sporting Lisbon and his first appearance this season for them in an Instagram post, saying: “Very happy to be back playing at home. Excellent demonstration of what it means to be a team until the last minute. We continue together.”
