Italian journalist Franco Ordine discussed Inter’s painful 2-1 derby loss to rivals AC Milan in an editorial in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper il Giornale.

“Inter paid a very high price for the fragility of their defensive trio and Lukaku’s finishing, overwhelming from midfield onwards, but in front of goal as imprecise as Darko Pancev.

“Pioli’s courage was rewarded. He aimed straight at Conte’s weak link, D’Ambrosio. On that side he threw Leao who, in a few movements, skipped past the defender and set up the second goal.”

He highlighted how the Nerazzurri had the chances to overturn the result but failed to grasp them with both hands, allowing the Rossoneri to take home the full three points.

“Chances to make up for it arrived, they wasted them. And this is Conte and the Inter fans’ real regret.”

Inter are sixth in the league table after four games, one point behind rivals Juventus, who drew 2-2 with Crotone yesterday.

AC Milan, on the other hand, have continued their strong start to the season and are sitting at the top of the league table with 12 points, two points ahead of second place Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri will now have to look ahead to their next game, the Champions League opener against German side Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday. Their next league commitment is against Genoa on Saturday.

Inter’s loss to the Rossoneri yesterday was their first league derby loss in two years.
