Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann discussed the German club’s upcoming opponents in the Champions League, Inter, and their performance in yesterday’s derby in an interview on the club’s official website earlier today.

“It doesn’t matter that Inter lost the derby. It is important if they lose again on Wednesday. However, they have a great team. It will be a huge challenge, like all Champions League matches, where we have to make the most of it.”

The 28-year-old German midfielder highlighted how the Bundesliga side almost have a full strength squad now, ready to face their European competition.

“But I think we are very well prepared for the competition, especially because we are gradually recovering our injured players.”

Borussia Monchengladbach are currently 11th in the Bundesliga after four games, sitting on five points. The German side have only one once in their opening four games, beating struggling FC Cologne earlier this month.

Monchengladbach’s last appearance in the Champions League came in the 2016/17 season, where they finished 3rd in a group containing Manchester City, Barcelona and Celtic.

The German side finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, only two points ahead of fifth place Bayer Leverkusen.

Inter will need to bounce back after a disappointing 2-1 derby defeat to rivals AC Milan, and are hoping to have Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni in the clash, after the 21-year-old tested negative for Covid-19 recently.
