Borussia Monchengladbach manager Marco Rose has admitted that it is his and his team’s intention to progress in the Champions League ahead of their Champions League group stage opener against Inter in the coming days.

Inter and Borussia Monchengladbach will face off against one another at San Siro on Wednesday night and also have Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk in the group alongside them in what promises to be an interesting group.

“We already knew before the draw that we would have top-notch opponents in the group,” Rose has explained in an interview with today’s print edition of German news outlet Kicker, ahead of their Champions League group stage campaign beginning.

“Inter, Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk really make sense of the Champions League. It will be an exciting experience. However, we will aim to advance in the competition.

“Any other target would go against our character. We have been working hard to get to the Champions League. Now, we want to do our best in this competition.”

Rose is into his second year in charge of the Bundesliga club, who, like Inter, have made a far from ideal start to their league campaign this term.

Borussia Monchengladbach, who are one time Champions League runners-up, are currently sitting in 11th place in the Bundesliga having obtained just five points from their opening four matches this season.
