Italian football journalist Paolo Condo has insisted that Inter cannot afford to slip up like they did in last season’s Champions League group stage opener on Wednesday night when they begin this year’s edition of the Champions League group stage.

A late Nicolo Barella goal rescued a draw for Inter right at the death of last year’s opening match against Czech side Slavia Prague and in the end Inter failed to make it out of the group stage with their failure to beat the Czech’s proving decisive in their elimination.

Inter will open this year’s Champions League group stage against Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, who are back in the Champions League having missed out in the past few seasons.

“Inter cannot fail against Borussia Monchengladbach because it is a tough group,” Condo explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on this evening.

“There are four teams that can qualify. Inter could also qualify earlier considering Real’s results. Last year the draw with Slavia was decisive and they cannot have a repeat of these, they need to bring home the three points.”

Condo also shared a similarity that he has seen between Conte’s Inter this season and when he first took charge of Juventus.

“Conte is repeating his start from his time at Juventus, do you remember the 4-2-4? The pattern with Lautaro and Lukaku in front and Hakimi and Perisic, evidently remains a little uncovered having such rampant wings. In the centre they must cover themselves and would need the starting defence.”
