Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram has revealed his belief that Inter are a very strong team and that he takes inspiration from Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.

The highly rated young French forward, who is the son of legendary defender Lillian Thuram, is due to take on Inter tomorrow night at San Siro in each side’s Champions League 2020/2021 group B opener.

“It’s exciting that I will be able to play in Italy. I was born in Parma, my father stayed in Italy for many years,” Thuram began an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milanese news outlet.

“Dad told me that it will be strange for him to see me on the pitch at San Siro, where he played so many important games.

“I don’t worry about playing in such important stadiums, I’ll enjoy the experience as playing at the Bernabeu and San Siro has always been a dream for me.”

He then went on to reveal that he was a fan of AC Milan as a youngster and admitted that he will not see this match against Inter as a personal derby match for himself.

“I don’t know why, but when my dad was playing for Juve, I cheered for AC Milan, when he moved to Barcelona I was cheering for Real Madrid. I loved Sheva and Crespo, but now I’m only a fan of my Borussia. That’s why it won’t be a derby for me.

“It would have been if I had played against Inter at the time, when I was a fan of AC Milan. It would have been a derby if I had played against Adriano, Vieri and Martins. I just want to score for Borussia.”

In conclusion he shared his thoughts on Inter and also spoke on Inter and Belgian national team striker Romelu Lukaku.

“They are a very strong team from the goalkeeper to the striker it is difficult to say who is the best but I have always had a great admiration for Lukaku.

“I followed him when he was very young, for me he has always been a source of inspiration. I hope to become more strong like him, I work every day to become one of the best in the world.”

This season the 23-year-old has scored one goal and tallied three assists in five appearances across all competitions to date.
