Legendary AC Milan manager Fabio Capello has reiterated that despite losing the Milan derby, Inter remain the favourites to win the Serie A title this term.

Inter lost the first Derby della Madonnina clash of the season against their city rivals 2-1 and now trail the league leading Rossoneri by five points in the Serie A standings. AC Milan have made the perfect start to the 2020/21 campaign picking up 12 points from 12 whilst Inter have just seven points from their first four games.

“Inter have enormous potential and I repeat my prediction, they are the favourite to win the title, but Conte must recover some players who ended up on the market in the summer,” Capello explained in a column in Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition of the Milanese news outlet.

“He needs to shake things up when it comes to the mental aspect of the game and make it clear to those who were questioned that they are an integral part of the current project.”

Former England national team boss Capello, who last managed Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning, then shared his thoughts on how the Inter team has been built.

“On a technical level, I see an Inter built on the two forwards. With the attacking potential it is the right choice but the defence suffers in some moments.

“Conte must find the right balance. The weekly work is essential, but now the European cups are coming and for the coaches it gets tough.”

In conclusion, Capello also shared his belief that AC Milan can fight to win the Serie A title this season.

“In such an uncertain season, I believe that AC Milan have a chance to play for the title. The important thing is to believe in it. If everyone follows Ibra’s example, Pioli’s team will be able to go all the way. Managing difficult moments will be fundamental.”
