Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has revealed that he is worried by the amount of goals that he and his teammates have conceded in the early part of the 2020/21 Serie A season.
Inter have conceded eight goals across their opening four matches of the campaign already and have failed to keep a clean sheet.
“A goalkeeper is always worried when he concedes eight goals, but regardless of the goal, it must be life, both for the attack and the defence,” Handanovic explained to the gathered media at this afternoon’s press conference ahead of tomorrow evening’s UEFA Champions League group stage opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.
“Goals bring points and joy. It’s also true that we create a lot, so I’m not worried because It’s normal to risk something. This is football, we have to be more bad in front of goal.”
The veteran Slovenian shot-stopper was then asked what he thinks is behind Inter having conceded as many goals and shared his belief that things will get better.
“We didn’t work because there wasn’t time. The important thing is to understand the mistakes and correct them, however I’m confident about this fact. For sure we have to raise the level because in the Champions League it’s more difficult, we all have to do better.”
In conclusion he was asked if he feels that he still has a lot to give to football and Inter, who he is contracted to until the end of the current season.
“You don’t see me as well? [Laughs]. I feel good, maybe I won’t show it completely but I have great motivation and passion, as long as I want to compete, I will always be here at Inter.”
The 36-year-old, who joined Inter back in 2012 from Udinese, has made 346 appearances across all competitions to date for the Nerazzurri, in which he has recorded 122 clean sheets.
