Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has insisted that the goal for this year’s Champions League is to make it past the group stage following two consecutive exits at this stage ahead of this evening’s Champions League group stage opener against German club Borussia Monchegladbach.

“In the previous two years, we really missed a little, we always played for qualification until the last match, we really missed a little,” the experienced goalkeeper explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was broadcast earlier on today.

He then spoke on the fact Inter have conceded far more goals than expected at this early stage of the 2020/21 season.

“This year we are aiming to face all the games with the right spirit and the goal of passing the group stage. We need to be more lethal in front of goal and better defensively, there have been moments that are penalising us.

“When you create a lot and play as attacking as we do it is normal that you risk something at the back.”

He concluded by insisting that there is lots of confidence in the team despite the start that they have made to this campaign.

“There is a lot of confidence in this team, even if so far we have not collected everything we have created but this gap does not mean anything because the season has just begun and the road is still very long.”

Inter have started the 2020/21 Serie A season with two wins, a draw and a loss in their opening four fixtures. They have seven points to their name and are currently sitting in sixth place in the Serie A table.
