Matteo Darmian could potentially make his Inter debut in this evening’s Champions League group stage opener at home to Borussia Monchengladbach according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The highly versatile defender joined Inter at the end of the Summer transfer window and was an unused substitute in last weekend’s Derby della Madonnina.
The former Manchester United man could however start tonight at left wing-back. He is currently in a battle with Ivan Perisic to be handed the start by manager Antonio Conte. By deploying Darmian at left wing-back, Conte could have some much needed balance in his ultra attacking system.
Gazzetta dello Sport go on to state that Conte will also hand Christian Eriksen a rare opportunity to start with him to deploy the 28-year-old Danish national team player as an attacking midfielder in behind the strikers as part of a 3-4-1-2 set-up.
