Legendary Inter central midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has shared his belief that the two mistakes that Arturo Vidal made that led to goals in yesterday’s Champions League group stage opener against Borussia Monchengladbach were avoidable.
The Chilean national team player gave away a penalty which allowed Borussia Monchengladbach to restore parity in the match around the hour mark and was also at fault for their second goal of the match in the 2-2 draw, which Romelu Lukaku rescued for Inter in the final minutes with his second goal of the game.
“For me they are two errors that were made due to too much generosity. If he had limited himself to doing his task, he would not have been in the box to give away the penalty or in defence for the German’s go ahead goal,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
The Argentine proceeded to add: “I think the penalty is the result of a lack of communication, D’Ambrosio covers the ball with his body and I think they didn’t understand each other.
“The other goal was born from a great play, from a great pass that reminded me of Ribery’s for Chiesa in the first league game.”
Cambiasso spent 10 years with Inter between 2004 and 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the club’s greatest ever midfielders.
During his trophy filled decade on the books of the Nerazzurri club, the former Real Madrid player made 431 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 51 goals and tallied 34 assists.
