Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian has shared his belief that he and his teammates approached last night’s Champions League group stage opener at home to Borussia Monchengladbach excellently and also shared his disappointment with the result that they picked up against the Bundesliga outfit.

Inter took a one-nil lead shortly after half time in the match but had to settle for a draw in the end, a result they only rescued in the final few moments thanks to Romelu Lukaku, who scored his second goal of the game.

“We had an excellent approach to the match, we had great desire and determination and it showed right from the start but unfortunately we are talking about a draw and a match that leaves a bad taste in the mouth,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, following the match, which was played at San Siro.

The 36 time Italian national team representative then spoke on Achraf Hakimi testing positive for COVID-19, something which enabled him to make his first appearance for Inter since his arrival in the Summer transfer window in a loan with obligation to buy deal from Parma.

“We know how important he is to us, I tried to make my contribution as always. I prepared as if I had to play and I think it was exciting because the first game was in the Champions League.

“I was expecting a different result. There is no time to regret, we have an important match on Saturday. We have to work and bring the results home.”
