Inter left wing-back Ivan Perisic has shared his belief that he and his teammates could have won last night’s Champions League group stage opener against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Inter took a deserved lead just after the second half began but Borussia Monchengladbach were the team that scored next not just once but twice.

With five minutes of normal time left Inter found themselves trailing by a goal but in injury time Romelu Lukaku came to the Nerazzurri’s rescue with his second goal of the game.

“One point is not exceptional, but we still have five games to play in the group, so everything is open,” Perisic explained in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA’s official broadcaster UEFA TV following the match at San Siro.

“I think we could have won this match but unfortunately we made some mistakes. The goals are always scored by the team and the team is wrong, so we all have to improve.”

The 31-year-old, who joined Inter back in the Summer of 2015 from Wolfsburg, put in arguably his best performance since his transition from winger to wing-back against the Bundesliga club and this was his 168th appearance in an Inter shirt.

In his time with Inter, he has scored 40 goals and tallied 37 assists.
