Inter gifted away a win in the opening group stage match of the Champions League against Borussia Monchengladbach at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.

The Nerazzurri were in complete control when Stefan de Vrij and Arturo Vidal decided to commit footballing harakiri by gifting the Germans two goals. Luckily Inter have Romelu Lukaku.

Samir Handanovic – 5: Had a very quiet night as Gladbach barely created something until the penalty. Should have done better on their 2nd goal. Made 0 saves.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: Decent match after the horror-show in the derby. Worked hard defensively and helped close down the right hand flank.

Stefan de Vrij – 5,5: Inexplicably gave the ball away unattacked which led to their penalty. Needs to start playing like the best defender in the Serie A soon.

Aleksandar Kolarov – 6: Did well throughout the match and wasn’t caught out. Mainly due to the team finding balance for the first time this season.

Matteo Darmian – 7: Very good debut by the former Man Utd player. Faultless defensively, always available in attack providing good crosses.

Nicolo Barella – 6: Not his best performance in an Inter shirt nor his worst. Has already been played in 3 different positions in midfield. Needs consistency.

Arturo Vidal – 5,5: Made the pass which ultimately led to the opening goal but was exhausted from the 55th minute and onward making mistakes leading to both goals.

Ivan Perisic – 6,5: His best performance since being converted to a wing-back. Provided good crosses in attack and looked comfortable when defending.

Christian Eriksen – 6: A step forward by the Dane who looked much better after half-time when Lautaro came on. Brought off in the 79th minute for Brozovic.

Romelu Lukaku – 8: Another man of the man performance by Inter’s best player right now. Brilliant link-up play, rarely loses a ball and lethal in front of goal.

Alexis Sanchez – 5,5: Struggled in link-up play and missed quite a few simple passes. Brought off at half time and replaced by Lautaro Martinez.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: Instant impact when brought on at half time. Creates chaos in oppositions defences and was very unlucky not to score.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Came on in the 79th minute for Ivan Perisic allowing Kolarov to go to left wing-back replacing him in central defence. Did OK.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Was brought on instead of Christian Eriksen to help team create pressure from behind. Kind of succeeded. Wasn’t too involved.

Antonio Conte – 5: Got line-up sort of right but made changes far too late in second half when he should have brought Vidal off at half-time avoiding two goals.

Björn Kuipers – 5,5: VAR inconsistent which is on them and not on him. If he didn’t see the handball after Lautaro hit the post he should have used the VAR.

Inter – 5,5: Simply not good enough. Cannot keep throwing away important points like this before the season is completely ruined.
