Inter manager Antonio Conte is insistent that he is happy with what he has seen from his team, who he feels have not got what they were due given their performances in matches, where he feels they have never been dominated by opposition.
“We are trying to manage the situation by making the players recover and prepare for the matches because they are all different and therefore we must combine the two, giving the players a good psycho-physical recovery.
“Most of the players are always playing,” he told the gathered media at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match against Genoa.
Next the former Italian national team boss was asked whether or not he is worried by the number of goals Inter have conceded so far this season and all of the absences he is dealing with.
“I’m not worried. The path taken is the right one, it makes me, the players and the club happy. We must always face the situation with our heads held high, not giving too much weight to absences and what happened to us.
“I’m not worried from a football point of view either because we are playing well, we are playing good football and are getting much less than we deserve.
“Often we are punished by our carelessness that we can avoid but I am happy with what my players give and the fact that they believe in a certain idea. Let’s move on.”
He was then asked if he feels his team need to play with more intensity in their upcoming matches.
“In terms of intensity in the last match we were superior to the Germans. Usually against the Germans you pay duty on their pace, often and willingly you have to defend while they press you, but even from this point of view I think it is the right way.
“I always say, we often let ourselves be influenced by the result. I’m looking at the performances and so far I have to be satisfied with the mentality and production.
“Above all I see the satisfaction of my players for the fact that we play the game. The final result depends on a thousand factors. The last three matches the factors of the shots going post-in and post-out have been negative for us.”
Next the 51-year-old was asked whether the team will have to have a few draws or too many losses to get to where they want to.
“We have to give 110% to try to get the result in addition to the performance. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.
“We can take Liverpool as an example who went four years without winning, now they are a war machine. They have built something important.
“I know for sure why the path is the one undertaken all together, which is the right one. Those who arrive today from outside seeing Inter see a solid structure that is settling in unlike in previous years. This brings us happiness.”
Next the former Juventus manager, who is into his second year in charge as Inter manager, was then asked how he is working on avoiding the repeat of some situations.
“I don’t have to intervene because this is a group of players who are mostly men. The bar is straight. When I see certain attitudes from the players I can only be satisfied, I like the club.
“Honestly I have to say today that I see more negativity and instead I see a lot of positivity inside, not to mention the virus. The club is happy.”
In conclusion, Conte was quizzed on the fact that whilst Inter are scoring a lot, they are also conceding a lot as well and what has changed since last year.
“What we are trying to do is involve the whole squad. It is inevitable that some interpreters have changed compared to last year, but we always try to repeat the same concepts.
“We have scored many goals, we could have scored many more. We have conceded a few too many goals, some very avoidable because there have been individual situations that we can improve upon.
“But we have to keep improving, there is a positive aspect because we have had many absentees and many players have had to play games by gaining experience and understand certain new situations.
“We will continue to do what we are doing, we try to make the game from the beginning. So far no team has dominated us or has been superior to us.
“This is the mentality and we have to carry it forward because this is the team to return to. to be solid in the future.”
