Inter Coach Antonio Conte Wants Back-Up To Romelu Lukaku Signed In January Italian Media Claims

Inter manager Antonio Conte will ask for a player who can act as deputy to Romelu Lukaku to be signed in the upcoming January transfer window according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Ever since Lukaku’s arrival at the club, the former Italian national team boss has sought a player who can be a backup to him but Inter have not signed such a player in any of the last three transfer windows, in which they have drawn no shortage of links to players who could fulfil this role.

Roma captain Edin Dzeko is one such player although this report explains that things are unlikely to take off but it could be a different story with another player who has been strongly linked to Inter several times, Olivier Giroud.

Back in January Giroud was linked with Inter due to the fact he only had six months left on his contract. Inter were unable to get a deal done and Chelsea then went ahead and exercised an option to extend his contract until the end of this season.

The Frenchman will therefore have just six months left on his deal with the Premier League club come January, meaning Inter could perhaps acquire him on the cheap or agree a pre-contract with him for him to arrive in the Summer.
